Here are some memories from Aunt Sis…
Grandpa & Grandma Erhardt’s, Mother’s Day Gathering the twin snowball bushes by the garden gate always were in full bloom and Grandma would let us grandchildren have a snowball fight. Not a bloom was left on the bush and the ground was white as snow, in May.
After dinner Grandpa Edwin and Dad (Adolph) would set out on the banister on the front porch and talk of many things, mostly in German. One thing Grandpa Edwin said I’ll always remember (it was in English), “They say pepper helps a man on his horse, and a woman to her grave.” I was about 7 and thought it was funny, but they didn’t laugh and I’ve wondered about the truth in that all these years!
