For some reason I can’t remember, someone gave me a “sewing set” when I was small. It was a red cardboard box that had hinges and latch. Inside was an 8-inch plastic doll and scissors, needle, thread and pieces of fabric already cut out. When you sewed the cut outs together, they fit the doll. I loved that set and wish I could remember who gave it to me.
There was a Native-American who everyone called “John the Baptist.” I don’t know what his real name was. When there was a Christmas parade or any kind of festival uptown inJefferson City, John the Baptist would always strut in the parade in costume. He was a visual wonder to us children and lent excitement to the parade.
There was a little market called the Dutch Mill that we used to go to. It was located where the intersection of the expressway andMissouri Boulevardis right now.
