I still have that dress tucked away in a closet where I keep clothing keepsakes. Marjorie made the dress I’m wearing. I don’t know why its so long, other than with that kind of skirt it was hard to make the hem any deeper. She probably didn’t want to cut it shorter in case I grew six inches. She hand stitched the lace on the bottom. What year was that picture taken? Anyone know? Wish I had worn some white heels. My mom and dad always looked so nice, dressed up together.
If Mom & Daddy got married in 1916, and if this picture was taken at their 50th anniversary (which I have no clue if it was or not) then it would be 1966….but you look younger than 14 on this picture. I tried to think of what other event we had that we would all be dressed up for prior to that. These pictures were taken of each family. I was pregnant on a picture with Lloyd because he wasn’t married yet and Louie would have not been there. I bet Cleo can answer your questions Kathy. She is the family ancestry expert.
Your parents always looked nice Kathy. You look good in that pretty dress. Had to be the 50th wedding Anniversary. Hello to Jim Lueers. Can’t wait to show to Lloyd. He is asleep now, have to wait.
Family pray for Debbie and Grandkids and Becky tonight that the bad storms going thru the Heits Point area does not harm them or their truck, car and camper. We were at HP this evening and the flooding in that area is bad.. Be careful when you drive the roads as there may be limbs, gravel and/or water over the roads. It doesn’t look good for the ballgame, the grounds crew didn’t get the field covered in time and it is wet–wet. I can’t wait to see you all. You may want to have your kids bring some games from home this year. The wood will be wet for a fire, ball-field may be unplayable, the lake is a dirty mess and minor flooding in the swimming area. Debbie said that the lake water looks like watery chocolate pudding. Whitni wants to start an annual Sommerer mud fight—no thanks. We may have to play wiffleball like we used to play at Grandma’s. Travel safe and I can’t wait to see you all. Danny
I think I was 11 and in 5th grade, so that made you 13 and in 7th grade. You were SO grown up, compared to me! I was so in awe of all your beautiful clothes, but most of all, your Beetle cap and mini skirts! I remember what an incredible seamstress Aunt Margie was. Do you remember when Aunt Margie whipped me up a cranberry hip-hugger mini- (well…) skirt overnight when we stayed overnight visit on the way home from Washington DC? You used to mail me swatches of the fabrics and sketches of the dresses your mom was making for you.
My mother sewed also, but I had made my dress for the 50eth anniversary (who remembers home sewing?) I felt it looked like a maternity dress. I made an identical one one out of white dotted swiss cottton for my confirmation, but got communion wine down the front of it on my confirmation day, and had to dye it brown. haha!
That might possibly be the last year that it was in vogue for women to wear hats and gloves, and men to wear hats — what do you think? Yes, all our parents were certainly attractive!
