Aunt Bea would like to hitch hike a ride to Heits point this comming saturday. Is anyone going to go on Saturday who has room for another person in the car? Please call Bea or myself if you can help. Thank you
Where did you get this letter? I haven’t seen this in 55 plus years!! What a surprise! I sure enjoyed reading it again, but would like to know where it came from!
Aunt Cleo gave me a large box that was filled with letters and pictures and scraps of this and that. I only scanned a small portion of it. It was tough to know what to scan, but I think I scanned nearly every letter and postcard where no one said anything particularly nasty about someone else.
That reminds me, I need to move that box upstairs so that I remember to take it to Heit’s Point this weekend. If anyone else wants to just throw an old box of stuff at me, I’d be glad to dig through it, organize it a little bit, scan part of it and give it all back to you.
I would say that about 50% of the stuff on the website this year is from Aunt Cleo.
This letter was written after Felix left the usa.Carol was still with her Mother and father, and Mark was around 1 year old. When Felix was a single batchlor for many years, he would buy new cars come home, and take us places, usually to St Louis or the Lake of the ozarks. Or the park in St Louis or to visit Lillian and family. This all happened the fall that Lolly married Ralph. Ralph just graduated form univ. of Missouri and got a call very soon to teach Agruculture at the High School in Hamilton Missouri. lolly ask me to come up with Felix and I did. Felix left and Julie and I stayed a few days and when It came time to go home, there was no way out of town. No busses no trains nothing. Everyone was busy and I had to get home. Lolly had to take me to Chillicothe MO to make a connection to get to another bus. If I remember right I had to transfer 3 times and had a waitover in Columbia MO. That was a learning experience for this farm girl
This website is full of mysteries!!! I don’t know where my family pic came from either. How long did he visit with you all at Hamilton, Lolly? That was a long drive to the coast for him in those days.
Aunt Naomi, I think your family picture came from a “cleaning” of grandma’s kitchen divider. There was a large collection of items in the stash that Aunt Cleo gave me to scan that had very little in common. I eventually realized that the one thing they had in common was that they were all from a 3-6 month period.
I think that someone cleaned off the kitchen divider and put everything in a box or an envelope or something and that all of that stuff was just waiting to be found again.
I learned a lot about Grandma from all of the people who sent her get well cards when she was ill.
He was with us for several days. It was wonderful. I think he had to drive his car out to Calif. because it was put on a ship or plane and sent to where he was stationed. Just reading the letter made me feel like he was right here with me.
It was for an 8 by 10 picture of our whole family, taken at the dinner reception after our marriage at Gramma and Grampas house. One picture was a small bill fold size one, enclosed in hard plastic, so it couldn’t be worn out. The cost of each was a dollar.
Cleo, Thanks for writing that. You were knowledgeable about getting around places. I remember one time you took me to St. Louis on the train (I was about 11 or 12) and we went all over St. Louis on buses. You always knew where you were going. I was amazed. We went to Famous Barr. That was a treat. I think we checked out the bargain basement. I can remember if you bought anything or not, but I’m sure I didn’t.
That must have been so frightening for you Cleo. Julie was just a year old, you were on that bus a long time with her. Do you remember what you did with all your dirty diapers? We didn’t have pampers back in those days. The hardest part of moving away after we were married was leaving Julie. We both adored her.

What is he talking about that he sent 3 dollars for a picture?
