I wish I could see the new church build along side of the old building to compare them. They are both beautiful either way. The girl reminds me of a girl who rode the school bus with us and her name was marilyn Johnson.I am sure it is not her but no one else comes to mind. I dont think these pictures were taken in 1976 , I think they were reproduced in 1976
It does look like Marilyn Johnson in the picture, but it is Betty Lou Englebrecht. I’m not sure why a lot of these photos are dated in ’76. But Betty’s blouse and the trees show that it was not March. I must have found some negatives and had them developed in ’76.
I thought it was Betty too. Did you take the picture? Marilyn Johnson had dark brown hair. At least she did when I went to high school. She was in my class.
Hey Aunts, I am wanting to make some of those cornflake cookies grandma use to make. I never helped make them so I am having a hard time finding a recpie that sounds like them. They were my personal favorite . There was no flour in them, they looked like a bunch of cornflakes blobed together. I can’t figure out what held them together. Also they were hard and crunchie. I am going to try a recipe today I found online. But they are described as being chewy. please help!
This is the only recipe I have, and I don’t think it is Mother’s. I never made them when I lived at home and never saw her make them, but I don’t think she used marshmellows, but rather egg whites/sugar. Maybe Lolly has the recipe. Here is what I have: Melt 1/4 lb oleo and 40 reg marshmellows in double boiler. My recipe does not call for sugar, but I would add some anyway if I made them. Add 1/2 tsp vanilla, dash of salt and 1/2 tsp green food coloring. Pour over 4 1/2 Cups cornflakes. My recipe says drop on wax paper. I assume you butter up your hands, shape them into wreaths like Mother did and put on was paper to harden. Mother added a few red hots for decoration. Julie, the Santa Suit is at Cleo’s house.
Yes the marshmellos make them soft. Hers were crunchy. I wonder if she made them months ahead of time and put them in the freezer and freezer burnt them to make them crunchy! Lol! They were sure good.

this is the recipe I am going to try. Bought the stuff today and now that we are home from the movie I will give it a try. I dont think hers had coconut in it but I will try it with it this time I guess I could just leave it out.
I think I have a winner!!! I will use much less coconut next time though. I guess hers did have coconut in them because this taste just like them. I think so much coconut made it hard to get them as compact as hers were.
Julie here is your Grandma’s recipea for corn flake cookies, it was in the Honey Creek cook book. I made them last year and had pretty good luck with them. I want to try your recipe though.
2 egg whites, room temperature
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. flavoring
1/2 c. nuts
4 c. corn flakes
Beat sugar into egg whites. Add remaining ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees until done.
(I am going to add a little coconut to this the next time I make them. I think Mother did.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!!!! I have enough of all the ingredients to do a couple more batches!!!! Hum dont remember nuts being in there! But knowing my grandma she probably threw in anything leftover from other cookies in there!!! I remember her saying ” If you put good stuff in it it will be good”

Karlene Johnson I think is who you are thinking of, Cleo. She was blond and in this picture, it does look like her.
