This is in responce to: Are we related to Jessie James? No we are not related to Jessie James. Even though He used the name Thomas Howard at one time, He was not related to this Howard family. The closest we come to a famous person that I know of, was Simon Kerl. We do not have Simon Kerls blood in our vains, but Ralph does, I think, not sure, because Simon Married a Marie Sommerer I was in A Library one time and found this book about Simon Kerl. They had a lot of praise for him as a educator. He is always refered to as Prof. Simon Kerl.In the 1850 census Simon Kerl was living with Thomas Boltons and he was a teacher. He was 30 years old at that time. his father was Johann John Kerl and his wife at that time was Anna Schubert. I think Johann had many children and many wives. We are not related to Amelia Erhart.
I have all of Simon Kerl’s books that he wrote. They were left to me and Ralph from Harold John Sommerer. Harold wanted them kept in the Sommerer family. I was always told by Mother that Simon was a secretary to Pres. Abe Lincoln. She was the only one I heard this from, until several years ago, I heard our cousin Leroy Engelbrecht, tell someone about his relatives, and he talked about Simon Kerl being a cousin and that he was secratary to Abe Lincoln. I was so glad to hear all about Simon from one of our cousins. I figured it must be true, if Leroy knew all about him. Leroy’s mother was Barbara Sommerer a cousin of Dady’s or something like that. Simon married a Sommerer, from our side of the family, not Ralphs.
If ever you and your family decide not to be the keepers of the books, you may want to donate them to the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection Museum in Columbia on the MU campus. There they could always be protected and kept for anyone to view.
