Louis Hugo Vetter

August 21, 1937 — September 4, 2022

Jefferson City, Missouri

Louis Hugo Vetter, 85, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born August 21, 1937, in Jefferson City, the son of Francis and Anna (Schrimpf) Vetter.

He was united in marriage on June 9, 1962, in Jefferson City to Naomi Joan Sommerer who preceded him in death on June 9, 2022.

Louis was a 1955 graduate of St. Peter’s High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Building Engineering with honors in 1960 from Lincoln University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with honors in 1962 from the University of Missouri.

He served for over 33 years in the United States Army and Army Reserves, retiring as a Colonel.

Louis was the co-founder and co-owner of Central Missouri Professional Services, Inc., an engineering, surveying and soil testing company.  He was also co-founder and co-owner of CMPS Development Co., which developed numerous subdivisions in Jefferson City and Cole County, to include the design and construction of streets, storm water systems, sanitary sewer systems, and water supply and fire protection systems.  Louis was a State of Missouri retired registered Engineer, P.E. and Land Surveyor.  He was also a licensed electrician.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as a communion minister, member of the Holy Name Society, served on the Parish Council and volunteered to help on numerous work parties.

He served six years on the Jefferson City Planning and Zoning Commission, three years on the Jefferson City Parking and Traffic Committee and was past President of the East Side Business Association.

He was a member of the American Legion, Reserve Officers Association, University of Missouri Alumni Association, Association of the United State Army and the National Riflemen Association.

Louis’s involvement with Helias Catholic High School included two, three-year terms on the Helias School Board where he served as Vice-President and President. In 2020, Louis was inducted into the Helias Hall of Fame.

His dedication to his family, his faith, and the betterment of his community is a shining example of how one person’s giving of time, talent and treasure can make a lasting impact on generations to follow.

He is survived by two daughters, Tracy Vetter (husband, Curtis Allen) and Tiffany Vetter (husband, Chris Petro) of Overland Park; four sons, Gregory Vetter (wife, Irene Kosturakis) of Houston, Philip Vetter of Jefferson City, Derrick Vetter (wife, Barbara Gaines) of Lohman, and Darren Vetter of Las Vegas; 5 grandchildren, Kaymen, Dalton, and Prescott Vetter, and Quintin and Karina Allen; three sisters, Carolyn (Tony) Bruemmer, Jefferson City; Joann (Jim) Penfold, New Bloomfield; and Sr. Cathy Vetter, St. Louis.

A Sad Memory… Aunt Naomi

August 25, 2010 by Lloyd Jr. 5 Comments

Here’s the second installment of memories from Aunt Naomi…

I suppose one remembers best events that are either happy or sad and the rest of the in between mundane things go unremembered. My next memory was a sad memory. My brother Lloyd and I were raking the leaves and both of us wanted the rake. I don’t remember what led up to the crisis but I do remember running with the rake, and Lloyd running after me trying to get it. I was running with the forks of the rake turned upward. Lloyd stepped on the rake. I next remember a furry of activity –mother disinfecting and a trip to the local doctor. I think there was one at Henley –I have to check on this for accuracy. Lloyd spent I don’t know how many days at St. Mary’s hospital. There was concern for a while that he might lose his foot, as gangrene had set it. However, the doctor was able to save his foot minus a few toes. My mother never did say the accident was my fault. I always was thankful for that. I suppose most mothers would feel that it was their fault and I am sure mother did. It would have been very hard for me to have that on my conscience, as I felt bad enough as it was. I must have been around 4 when this happened, because Lloyd was 2 years old. Likely he was close to 3 and I close to 5.

First Memories… Aunt Naomi

July 23, 2010 by Naomi Vetter 7 Comments

Aunt Naomi sent in a veritable treasure trove of memories for you to read. Here’s the first:

My earliest memory is of playing underneath a quilt (which was in a quilt frame, being quilted) with my sister Lolly and brother Lloyd. The quilters put the quilt in a stand, which ended up looking like a very large table. The quilters sat around this “table” and it became a tent to us children. We loved playing under it. Sometimes we retrieved dropped needles or spools of thread and were gophers in general. I don’t remember how old I was at that time but let’s say perhaps around 4 or younger.
