Who’s that on the left?
UPDATE: I scanned these at the Family Reunion from Aunt Naomi’s scrap book. We were trying to get a lot of scanning done, so the quality of the scan isn’t as high as you can get if you spend more time. Then before putting them on the website I try to do a little “restoration work” on the pictures. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Here are the originals:
Here’s a slightly different take on restoring them. I don’t know if you’ll find it any better for seeing the details. Keep in mind that I’m not very good at this. Someone who knew what they were doing could do better. Remember that you can click on most of the images to see a larger size, and that in a lot of cases you can click on them a second time to see an even bigger image.

Poor cows are in prison……at least they let them out to get some good food!
Aunt Lolly says
At first I thought the little girl was me, because I always had to help feed the calves their Milk or KAFFA but her hair is too dark to be me, so it must be Naomi. It was cute how the little calves would come right to their stanchions to have their heads locked in place, when they seen us coming with the milk. Because my hands were smaller, I had to put my hands with my fingers upwards in the milk, and the baby calves would suck on my fingers and the milk would go up into their mouths and down their bellies. I hated that! It didn’t ever take them long to learn how to drink from a bucket like that.
Christina Rowland says
People pay good money now a day to soak their hands in milk! I bet you had the prettiest hands around!
cleopha says
I wish someone could make both of those pictures lighter.Since they were in Naomi’s posession, who does she think it was? I think it is Lolly and I think she has her foot on the cup used to dish out the dry milk that was mixed with the water to feed the calfs
Julie Baker says
What is the little girl stepping on?
Christina Rowland says
It’s one of those ghost orbs! LOL!
Lloyd Jr. says
I think it’s something that is reflective, like the big bucket and that’s why it appears white. Any idea what that might have been? Or maybe I’m wrong and it’s one of those magic orbs.
Naomi Vetter says
Mahlon, do you remember what you told me KAFFA stands for?
Mahlon says
He hasn’t a clue. The internet answer doesn’t relate to milk replacement. Some things are remembered and others aren’t.
cleopha says
This is my second guess. I am guessing that it is Naomi because she does have light brown hair and Lollys hair was blond. The thing she has her foot on looks like a white granite cup. When we were young we had granite dishes. There was a story behind those dishes, We need Vernon or Marjory or Beatrice to tell us where the granit dishes came from.
cleopha says
Beatrice told me that the set of Granite dishes ,which were white with black edging , came from Lillian. She Purchased them for the family. There was plates amd large soup bowls and cups. Maybe some one remembers other things but that is what I remember. We also had a set of Sunday dishes, that were called the George White dishes. George White gave Elizabeth money for some reason and she didn’t want to take it and he wouldn’t take it back so she bought this set of dishes for mother and father. You all should remember this set of dishes. I am sure we used ti at all our family dinners. I wish I knew who has them now. Maybe they would bring them to Heits Point and show them off.
Naomi Vetter says
Who was George White? Was he a suitor?
cleopha says
yes , more or less. I wish margie would come on here and tell us about the dishes, and George White. He was a batchlor and wanted to date Elizabeth. I dont know if they dated ar not . I should remember this story. Mother loved to tell it, and I love hearing it.Maybe I can get Bea to get her memory working and tell us what she remembers. I would like to comment on the chicken house on the north side of the house. That was the second one . the first one was on the south side of the garden East of the plum trees. I was going to live in there someday.
Aunt Lolly says
Those are the scragulliest looking chickens I ever saw! I don’t remember having chickens that color. It could be a softball Naomi has her foot on. That is if we had one.
Jane says
Lloyd says they didn’t have Kaffa at that time must have been milk.
Jane says
I see your scrawny chicken in the bottom picture to.
Naomi Vetter says
For anyone who wants these photos, I can make copies. However, what I like to do when I see a photo someone sent in and is on the website is to copy/paste it to “my pictures” folder. In that folder I have a subfolder named Naomi’s family memories. This way, you have the picture forever and anytime you want to e-mail it to someone you can. Or, you can also print it right from your computer.
