I was given a sick runt black lamb when I was small (I don’t remember how old I was) and all I can remember about the lamb was it followed me around and when it died, I remember Mahlon telling me he took it down in the woods (below the junk pile) and put it in a big stump. I never did find it there. Then, I had a kitten with blue eyes that I named Evelyn because its eyes were the same color blue as Evelyn Meddler (Dorothy’s sister)and I don’t remembr what happened to the kitten but I enjoyed seeing Evelyn from time to time where she worked in the hospital.
I can remember having a dog named Birdie, I think Mahlon named it that because he liked Birdie Graham? Is that right Mahlon? One summer when the men were making hay, they bought back to the house three baby rabbits. They were so small and didn’t have any hair as yet. I fed them with an eye dropper and one by one died until there was only one left, I named him Frisky, He grew big and strong, got a nice fur coat, and I enjoyed him so much. Then one day he was gone, I don’t know if he got out of the house or if the cats ate him. I was so sad. We had cats too. but they were barn cats, I don’t remember any of them having names.
We always had lots of cats and at least one dog….the dogs were always Lloyd’s and had to be replaced regularly…..he must have been hard on them! I also had lots of little critters that my dad would bring home…they usually only lasted a couple of days though.
Tomorrow we are taking Aunt Bea home from St.Joseph’s. She is very happy about going home. Call or send her a card when you have time. She would be very happy to hear from you.

do you remember the baby rabbit that got lose in the house and ate the plants we were trying to grow?
Christina Rowland says
I know we had a set of four baby rabbits and only one of them grew big enough to set free. (the rest had freakish accidents)
