I worked on that coat a long time, Mother and I got the material at the California woolen mills. It wasn’t so hard to make, just took time. It had two linings in it. Was very warm. The color was mauve and charcoal gray. tiny lines. I wore it for several years. Mother gave it to Virginia Ehrhardt, the last time I was in her house (several years ago) the coat was hanging up on her wall. She still uses it to go out side to do her work in the winter. I did most of the sewing in Home Ec class. It was easier using the electric machines.
Who took us to the Woolen Mills? Did Shellabargers? I remember being there also, being inside and looking at the fabric, but I don’t remember how we got there. It was probably a big event, as we didn’t get out of the area very often unless Felix took us to St. Louis. The city of California would have also been a long way off from the farm.
I am pretty sure Daddy took us to the woolen mills. You poor little thing Lloyd, I’m sorry you had to wait in the car all that long time it took me to pick out that material! There was a lot of beautiful material to choose from. I don’t remember Naomi being with us. Did you get some material too? When I graduated from High School, and went to town to work, the styles of coats had changed. They no longer had collar’s on them. I had to have one of those, and put one on lay away and paid for it all summer long. Guess that is why Mother gave mine away. I was sure surprised to see it again after all those years.
Lolly that coat looks too big for you. Did you make that for yourself?
That coat was a gray tone, wasn’t it Lolly? I noticed the detail on the pocket. It must have been really hard to make.

I think it’s absolutely amazing and wonderful that it was still being used.
Lloyd says he was along at woolen mills and he had to stay out in car and wait.
Lloyd also said that was a good job Lloyd.
