Theresa Ehrhardt Sommerer was so proud of her flowers and her garden. She is in her natural element in this picture. I wonder what those flowers are? They are so pretty. She traded seeds and plants with her fellow club members and friends. Does anyone know what the tall flowers are? I notice that the rhubarb plants that were planted under the Grapevines are really doing well, but the grape vines are not all that great. She worked hard to own that little piece of earth, bless her heart.
When I tried to have nice flowers while I was raising the kids, I didn’t do very well and I told Mother my flowers would not grow. She told me “When you have children they are your flowers and after they are grown and away from home, then you grow flowers.” She certainly did do that and did a good job at both tasks. Does anyone know what kind of flowers are on the photo?
Does anyone have a favorite “saying or quote” from Grandma Theresa Erhardt Sommerer? The one I heard so, so many times is: “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.” Let’s hear some of your favorites!!!
Mahlon has those flowers. They were blooming and very pretty. I bet he could tell us what they are. Did she ever threaten to put your head between your ears?
We call the flowers standing cypress. I’m sure they have another name. They are biennials. The sprout and grow one season and bloom the next year. They reseed very well. I remember them growing along the house and along the fences. Mahlon has a half gallon of seeds. I’m sure he’ll be glad to share them.
Mother would say,”I’m going to stick your head between your ears!” and what ever I was doing that I shouldn’t have been, I would have to stop, and think about that. Wondering how that was going to happen. and would it hurt?

Yes!! put your head betwee your ears…that’s my favorite one of all. It was so confusing and I had to think so hard to figure it out when I was little.
