These pictures were most likley taken when we first moved to The Stroessner farm. That shed that don’t remember, is on this picture, thank goodness. I guess this is the one they used for firewood. Notice how small the yard is. I wished it was this size when we had to mow it with a push mower, after the cows got in the yard and made deep tracts that were hard to mow over. ,What I thought was a barn to the right , is a hay stack. What do you ? For future generations in case you dont know where farm is located, go to your Missouri map, look for Jefferson City, find highway 54 west, run your finger south on high54 west until you come to Brazito, just pass Brazito there is a road to the left, it is either E or H , whatever it is called ,go on that road it becomes H, and goes all the way to Henley. If you come to the Bois Brule bridge you have gone too far.Guess what I looked at the Cole County Map and the road is marked with the name of the people who bought the farm from Stroessners.
Actually, Aunt Cleo, the name of the road is Sommerer Road. Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Elizabeth went to the county and had it changed some time in the 80’s. There is even a sign at the top of the road marking it!
Beatrice added some information regarding these photos: There used to be a road that ran between the existing house and the old log building. The road led to a previous homestead on the other side of the garden area. Gilbert Stroessner, who is the son of Andy Stroessner (the person from whom the farm was purchased) upon occassion visited the farm to walk back to look at the old homestead. Note that the yard fence enclosed a much smaller area than our existing fence. Back then, the fence began right at the end of the existing front sidewalk. The old log building was used for grain storage and Beatrice remembers also that walnuts were stored in it. It did not remain there long, but was torn down. The barely visible low structure on the other side of the log building are turkey houses. Beatrice remembers huge holes that were up the hill (west) from the house and these were from some kind of mining. She thinks they were filled in soon after we moved there. There was a building east/southerly that was also torn down. The farm to the north of “our” farm was owned by Andy Stroessner’s brother, George. It is now the Callahan farm
Oh wow, I enlarged the picture of the house and saw the big shade tree in the front yard when it was just a sapling! Was it inside the fence or outside ? I had a good tome in that tree. It was kid friendly for climbing!
Santa Claus suit to give away to any family member – Can I use this site to give-away? My grandchildren have outgrown Santa’s real life visit on Christmas Eve, and I have a suit to offer anyone who has little ones. I knew it was time to give it away when Karina asked me if Phil was going to be Santa again this Christmas! Phil was our Santa for 12 years and now I need to pass this suit on to anyone who can use it. It is in very good shape because it was only worn for about 15 minutes per year for 12 years. Let me know if you want it. 573-635-4013.

Yep! The farm was bought from the Stroessners by the great, wonderful Sommerer family! The road is properly named.
