Christmas at East Union there was a lovely tree, a gift exchange and home made fudge by Miss Maynes who married Ben Westerman. They were an adorable couple and had a darling daughter that we got to meet once when she was very young, 2 or 3. We sang Christmas carols and some time had little story plays. When I was un-school age 41/2 Theresa & Adolph made me go up on the stage in my snow white dress with large red satin puff bows on my shoulders and Mary Jane black patten leather slippers. I had to say, “I have roses on my shoulders, slippers on my feet, I am Daddy’s Dutch Girl, don’t you think I’m sweet?” I was glad when that was over, I never became a star.

I had to recite that same poem as a child more than 50 years ago. And my sister before me, did it nearly 10 years before that. Do you who the original author was?
