In a rather round about fashion, I have a sample from the CD of the Men’s Group at Honey Creek that Danny was telling us about a few weeks ago. I sent an email to Cousin Sam, and he got in touch with his nephews, the *ances, and shortly thereafter Chance Sommerer had a shiny new mp3 in my mailbox that I can share with the rest of you.
Naomi Vetter says
That is my favorite song on the CD. I had never heard that song before. It is beautiful!
Julie Baker says
Very very nice…
Danny Sommerer says
Thank you for putting the song on the website Jr. Jesus was between the ages of John Robert and Hance when he was with the bible scholars answering those questions. I bet they were shocked.
I love those pictures of the roses. Keep them coming.
I wish our uncles would record us a tape of the ole coon hunt’n Labador shorties. Maybe we could have a story time on friday night at HP for some those great stories??? When I tell my kids that I went hunting on the Coon Hunting Labador they look at me like I have lost my mind—whats left of it anyway.

To update you on Calvary High school. A Dedication/Blessing with be on Dec 5th at 2PM. If we use it for school before the 5th then they will have blessing of the building before the start of classes that morning. We are planning an open house for sometime next spring.
This school has been blessed by our family members that have helped out in many ways. We have 51 or 52 students now and will get 2-3 more at the start of the spring semester. Over 1/2 of our student body is freshman. The *ances will graduate in a class of 7 in the spring. Hance will start there in the fall of 2011.
Love to all. Danny

Lloyd says
We should record the sing-a-long next 4th of July.
Danny Sommerer says
Lets all put pressure on Uncles to tell us their stories about the coon hunting Labrador and make a CD with the sing along songs as well. Add in some interviews mixed in with the stories and songs.
Julie Baker says
sounds like a job too big for anyone but iLloyd!
Aunt Bea says
Aunt Bea says, send more music folks, lots of it. Remember to prepare a skit for over the 4th of July 2011. Try real hard kids.
Love to all, try for first prize.

I want to thank everybody who added information about the ice box cookies. I took the recipe and made it six times bigger for 270 cookies that are about 3″x6″. I made them in the bread pans and sliced them 1/4″ thick and they turned out good. I added more hickory nuts. You should use dark brown sugar but I only had light brown. This weekend the kids ate them and I didn’t see any leftover pieces laying around.
We were blessed with 59 of our family here for the weekend. Some of the family went to their homes close by to sleep. That still left us wall to wall in beds on the floor. We all had a good time. Friday night we filled them up with home made chicken noodle soup and Debbie’s desserts plus Sherri’s new eclair square dessert plus who knows how many dips and etc. Saturday morning was a buffet breakfast and that night we had tacos. FOOD FOOD FOOD! Lots of card playing and kids exploring and playing outside.
Our surprise guests were Jane and Aunt Bea on Saturday afternoon.
We looked at lots of pictures and reminisced.
Sunday morning they all packed up after breakfast. They cleaned house and left us to ask “what happened here?” It was lovely!
Just FYI…Debbie has her own home now and is decorating for Christmas. Remember her birthday is Dec 3.
FYI again…as far as the website is going – we are enjoying hearing all your comments and perception of things that happened in our family. Some of them we just took for granted everybody knew. More has been discussed on this website than at any reunion we’ve had.
Love you every one!

Be sure to submit Debbie’s new address to the website!

If anyone thought that snickerdoodles were good or lepcuchans (sp?) were the best or chocolate chips…………. YOU NEED TO TRY DAD’S HICKORY NUT COOKIES. They are simply the best cookie EVER. I would have loved to been there when he was baking them with a glass of milk to keep an eye on things.
Aunt Lolly says
That was a good idea Mahlon, putting the ice box cookie dough in bread pans. If I make more I will try that. I had enough hickory nuts for one batch. They turned out real good I thought. I also used light brown sugar, I will try the dark brown next time. Thanks for telling us that. My family didn’t eat many of them, I guess they held no memories for them. That’s ok though, that leaves more for me! ha We had Sam,Danny and Doug’s family here on and off from Thursday to Monday morning. Katie came Saturday evening and left Sunday afternoon. Josh came Sun. afternoon and left Monday. and Sam’s family left Sunday morning. Hazel and Kenny Braun also came for Thanksgiving supper. It was a fun and blessed weekend. For several years now, we have a talent show, after the meal on Thanksgiving. Each of the grandkids who take part in it receive five dollars each. A grand prize is then offered to the best talent from the ages 0-12, and from the 13- on up age group. Joseph won the older age, he played several songs on the violin, and did really well. John and Leah, and Gracen and Anna also won first prize’s which was an additional 5 dollars! John sang Three Men on the Mountain, played his harmonica, and his fiddle, Leah played her fiddle and was the bell ringer, for John and Joseph when they played jingle bells on the violin. Anna and Gracen, sang songs and acted one out. Anna played the piano. They were all so cute. Whitni,Lance,Chance, and Hance didn’t practice anything, but I made them sing a song, They sang the doxology in three part harmony, They did a good job for not practicing. I lost another guinea, we don’t know what happened to this one. I have 6 left. This is my Thanksgiving story, and I can’t remember what we did this past year, other then cook, wash clothes and chase guineas. I love you all.
Jane says
Not sure where to post this. I made the ice box cookies for Thanksgiving. Used the light B Sugar. I thought the recipe a little dry. Not like most cookie doughs so added some milk to it. Took longer to bake. They turned out ok. Noone complained but for all other experimenters. Try it the way it was posted. Even if it appears dry it probably doesn’t need extra liquid but I would use large eggs in it. (Experimenters either make it better or regret it)

Hi Jane, most of mine are gone.I ate them. Lolly was telling me about cookies made with butter drying out and crumbling. I know that the fact that these were made with butter was what was making them so good, but I was wondering if they would be just as good if I used half butter and half margarine. I am going to try it the next time. I still have about a gallon of the other cookies.
Christina Rowland says
Aunt cleo…you should try using the butter flavored crisco…..I use it in my chocolate chip cookies and it is yummy!
cleo says
I am going to church at noon with my friend Elizabeth and then we go to Steves to eat and then we go shopping . I hope I see some butter flavor somewhere. I hope I remember that I need butter flavor. Thanks Christina
Julie Baker says
She sent a bunch of them to Scott. Then shared the rest with Sarah and I!
