The chicken yard was on the south side of the yard, also the woodpile and chopping block (used to chop wood and chicken’s heads off). We would gather kindling, and carry in split wood with the red wagon. Daddy would split the wood just the right size to fit in the wood burning kitchen stove.
The west pasture land was full of rocks and goat weeds. We had to help pick up rocks for days and put them in piles. The goat weeds were terrible and we had to pull them for days and days. One day we were pulling and Lolly felt dizzy so she got to stop. It was very hot and she may have had too much sun. Another time in that field, she got bitten by a scorpion. It was under some rocks and boards that she was working around.

I would like to read Lloyd, Naomi, and Lolly’s version of when father purchased the tractor. I can’t remember where Mahlon was at that time. My guess is that he was in the service. When father got the tractor we spent a lot of time picking up rocks in the fields. The. First field was the bull pen. It was full of weeds and he mowed them with the tractor and in order to do that he had Lloyd running in front of the the tractor. Picking up the rocks. Lloyd was very young , I can’t remember how old but I was scared that. He was going to stumble and fall and get his feet cut off. I understand that we all missed school picking up rocks.

I want all of you to get hold of the article in yesterday’s paper and keep it with your family records. The George ehrhardt in this story was our great grandfather … It is hard to believe but our grandfather…..mothers daddy was born in 1850 that was a long time ago but you got to remember mother was the youngest of many children in that family. Then I want you to know that her daddy(our grandfather) had even more children then his son Edwin. George started his family before coming to this country. I understand that that wife died on the way over here. Be sure and keep this article with your records.

Can you tell us what section it was in and what page it was on? How big was the article? I couldn’t find it and I need more direction. I saw John’s article, though.
Aunt Lolly says
Naomi it’s in the Sundays paper. It’s about tomb stones, Unmarked old graves. You have to read the whole article to find our Great Grandfathers name.

I don’t remember getting bit by a scorpion, but I sure do remember pulling goat weeds, out in the summer afternoon when it was 110 degrees, and feeling like I was going to pass out.
