This photo was taken (well, at least developed) at the same time as the second garden photo. I used to always think of this as the side of Grandma’s house. But someone told me once that it was the front. Does anyone ever remember using it as the front? It’s a much more impressive house from this angle.

I can think where you would believe it was the side. i guess it was used more as a side then a front. The reason the older generation call it front is because at one time, it was the front. There was a road that ran in front of the house At one time many years ago before our time there was another house about a block or two pass the north side of the garden about about a block East of the back of the garden. Gilbert stroessner took me back there and showed me where it was(or where he thought it was)It was close to where the woods began,if not in the woods.I dont know exectaly where the road went to but I am guessing it went over to the Goetz farm.I remember the Goetz men using the road to get by wagon to our house or to the neighbors when they were helping each other with farm work.

I wish I could take that front porch an install it in my yard for a gazebo. I always loved the gingerbread on it.

That house and front poorch look so majestic . The picture must have been taken after a new paint job. I love that picture.Notice that there is a covered wood pile in the front yard. For some reason there was a sidewalk from the house to half way to the fence. That must have been where the front yard ended at one time. This walkway was never used for anything. Mother had her wood piled on the walkway that went to nowhere.By the way I took those pictures and I am so happy I did.I love them.

I always just sat on the railing and the paint would always rub off on your clothe and skin!!
Aunt Lolly says
Naomi and I sat on those railings and pretended we were on horses.

We would sit or stand under the covered overhang when it was raining and talk to whatever cuzn was there… Good ole days. The only thing you had to worry about was how soon Uncle Bud and Aunt Alma, Carlyn Jean and Leon would get to Grandma’s so we could eat dinner on a Sunday. Ha Ha

Julie thank you for putting the photos on the Sommerer site for us to see, and smile at…..

All those photos that you girls uploaded are so great! But my favorite pic in the entirety is the one of Peter (bless his teased heart) with the “fan” voting record.
Christina says
I didn’t write on the fan, I was just asked to record it for posterity’s sake!

It was painted in the summer of 69. Must have been taken in that era sometime.
Lloyd says
Really, that’s also when I got my first real 6 string.
cleo says
What is a 6 string?
Christina says
He is quoting a line from a song Aunt Cleo…..a 6 string is an electric guitar.
